A long time ago, when I was fresh out of grad school, I was so caught up with β€œpicture perfect” form and technique that I missed out on some of the things you cannot learn out of a book... Things that can only be learned through the β€œgrind”. In this case, as I feel a greater mind-muscle connection in my lats, I feel more control in the β€œstretch” of seated cable rows as well. As a result, I can put a lot more emphasis in my stretch before exploding through the contraction. What we can learn out of a book is the phenomenon that happens in a working muscle we are training. Essentially, we allow for oxygen to be delivered to the muscle as it is being stretched; followed by a rush of blood being pumped into the muscle during the contraction (the β€œsqueeze”). Therefore, as we begin to master each movement pattern, we can enhance this phenomenon greatly by mastering the control at both the bottom AND the top of the exercise we are performing. It may look a tad β€œcringey” when it appears that the shoulders roll forward here (and it WOULD be cringey if I were doing this out of control); however, when in control, it is invigorating to feel both the oxygen and blood pumping as you complete each repetition. There is almost a β€œhigh” that you get from the perfect β€œPUMP”πŸ’ͺπŸ‘Š.
