Calysta Upperman

today was my first back day in months where i didn’t want to cry from being in pain.
wait, what?! yupp. my back days had taken a hit and so had some of the exercises i do for legs (deadlifts in particular). i even took 5 days off the beginning of december to see if that would help. ish 🤷♀️ i just kept pushing through and telling myself i’m just sore, i’ll be fine. #noexcuses wellllll, i was being naive and ignoring the problem.
if you’ve followed along over my offseason you’ve seen me moving heavy weight in the gym. i also have proper form and am OCD about it. i annoyingly ask my husband to watch whenever we train together. i get massages regularly, had been stretching more. so why? why was i still constantly hurting. last week it got to be too much. my left shoulder was killing me, my lower back was shot, my left hip hurt, my knees hurt.
finally i texted d’ghon @thebalancedhandofficial and he got me in for some REAL bodywork. pretty quickly, he realized i was a hot mess. this muscle pulling on that one, muscles “bro hugging”, muscles stuck to my sacrum, the fascia from my left shoulder pulling down through my core into my hip and glute (i pose on my left) and my right glute was a mess as well. i’m seeing him for another 3 sessions cause yo girl needs fixed 🙃
as a serious athlete who puts a lot of stress on her body i neglected the more in depth bodywork i truly needed. the differences i noticed in one season with d’ghon made me want to cry during my lift. i feel like i’m getting my body back. i moved weight today i haven’t in weeks and it DIDNT HURT.
moral of the story. don’t put up with pain. don’t accept it. don’t ignore it. keep up on your body work and don’t go over 1.5 years without it👌🏼 #throwbackthursday to this shot with @seannelsonphoto see you again in april 🤗
